That was the situation recently at the Douglas County Sheriff’s warrant office in Omaha. After toilets in the jail above the office were plugged, contaminated liquid leaked through the ceiling and into the workspace below.

According to a recent WOWT 6 News report, liquid from the jail above began leaking through the ceiling of the Sheriff’s warrant office. Buckets were placed throughout the office to catch the overflow while Sheriff Aaron Hanson had the liquid tested by a private lab.

The results confirmed fecal coliform bacteria were present.

About 40 employees work in the affected office across three divisions, where they process legal documents, protection orders, and other important paperwork.

With employees working in the space every day, the county needed more than a basic cleanup. The area needed to be thoroughly disinfected.

“This is very crucial to a space like this,” City Wide’s Conner Perry told WOWT while explaining the importance of the disinfection process.

The work took about half a day. The team disinfected the space from floor to ceiling, wiped down desks and other surfaces, and vacuumed the carpet.

For employees, getting back to a clean workspace was about more than appearance. It gave them a safer, more comfortable environment where they could focus on their work.
